"We’ve had our eye on him for some time. He’s a threat and quick, and (sporting director) Deco has handled the signing superbly. The news came at exactly the right time.”

Barcelona are yet to formally announce the transfer. Dortmund said that winger Adeyemi missed diagnostics on Sunday because he was released for talks with another club.

Dortmund and Barcelona have reportedly agreed on a package with a base fee of €22 million ($25.1 million) plus €7 million in add-ons. Adeyemi, who came to Dortmund in 2022 for €30 million from Red Bull Salzburg, is to sign a contract until 2031 at the Spanish champions.

Barcelona are coached by Hansi Flick, who made Adeyemi a national team player in 2021 during his tenure as Germany coach. Adeyemi now has 11 caps but he was not part of the World Cup squad.
