Caitlin Clark, on minutes restriction due to a lingering back issue, helped the Indiana Fever to a 109-75 whipping of the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. The three-time All-Star also grabbed headlines when she dished out her 600th assist, making her the fastest player (72 games) in WNBA history to reach that tally.

Clark’s historic achievement came late in the third quarter during a pick-and-roll play with Monique Billings. The Fever star moved into the paint after Billings set a screen and Clark found her teammate for a layup.

With yet another milestone in her bag, the WNBA community reacted.

“THE GOAT!!!!!!!” a Fever supporter posted.

“She just PASSED Sue Bird,” Ken Swift, an avid Clark supporter, wrote.

“I get why they stay mad at you, Caitlin … even when you’re not at your BEST…You get ANOTHER RECORD,” a content creator tweeted.

“I will never take her greatness for granted. She’s special,” another diehard Fever and Clark supporter reacted.

A WNBA observer saluted Clark and wrote: “That’s riiiiight.”

Clark was at 591 assists when she left the third quarter of the controversial June 24 Fever-Phoenix Mercury showdown, which was her 70th game.

After missing two games with a back injury, she returned on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Sparks and added 3 more assists to her tally.

Against the Aces, she dished out 6 assists to hit 600 in 72 games, surpassing the legendary Ticha Penicheiro, who needed 81 games to reach that total. Teresa Weatherspoon (94 games) and Sue Bird (102) round out the top 4.

Clark also pulled past Penicheiro in 2024 for most assists per game and total assists for a rookie, per Basketball Reference. The Fever guard averaged 8.4 apg and tallied 337, besting the seven-time assist champ’s 7.5 apg and 225, former records that she set in 1998.

More importantly for the Fever superstar, she had a better rhythm in the win against the defending WNBA champs than she had against the Sparks, when she had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 turnovers.

Indiana is taking an extra careful approach with Clark due to nagging back issues. After playing only 13 games last year because of muscle injuries, the Fever are erring on the side of caution.

The Fever’s victory capped a punishing four-game road trip, finishing with a 3-1 record. Their only loss during that span came when they faced the Sparks without Aliyah Boston, and Clark played limited minutes.
