The shutdown, confirmed in the utility’s Daily Water Supply System Status Update dated 14 July 2026, will hit Blue Hills Extensions 21, 22, 53, 24, 71, 19, 17, 81, 76, 116, 117, 110, 15 and 32, along with Blue Hills Agricultural Holdings, Sunlands Stables, Bridle Park Agricultural Holdings, Santa Maria, Saddle Brook Estate, America International School and Eaton Farm.

All streets within these areas will be affected, with Johannesburg Water warning residents to expect no water at all for the full duration of the interruption.

When will the water be off in these Johannesburg suburbs?

The interruption is scheduled to begin on 29 July at 9:00 and run until 21:00 that same day, for a total of 12 hours.

According to the notice, the work is necessary for the commissioning of new water infrastructure in the area. Johannesburg Water says the project is ultimately aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring continuity of water supply once complete.

Where can residents get water in the meantime?

To soften the impact on households, businesses and institutions in the affected areas, Johannesburg Water has arranged alternative water points for the duration of the shutdown. These are located at the Blue Hills Shopping Centre, the Engine Garage on the R55, and the Sasol Garage on the corner of R55 and Summit.

The utility has also cautioned that these alternative supply points, along with water tankers, are contingency measures. Tankers will only be deployed to the listed locations if the shutdown runs beyond the planned 24-hour window.

Residents in the affected suburbs who experience prolonged outages or other water-related faults can log a call with Johannesburg Water on 010 061 4470 or 086 056 2874. Updates are also shared via the utility’s social media accounts, @JHBWater on X and Johannesburg Water on Facebook.

Johannesburg Water has urged affected customers to plan ahead by storing enough water for the 12-hour period and to make use of the designated alternative supply points where needed.
