LSU baseball signee flips to ACC school after MLB Draft

An LSU baseball recruit decommitted from the Tigers days after the MLB Draft. Anthony Murphy, who was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 16th round, will not join the Tigers. But he won't be heading to the pros either -- Murphy will take his talents to the University of Miami.
Murphy is a talented outfielder, but LSU's2027 outfield is set thanks to the transfer additions of Bino Watters, Jason Wachs, and Angel Laya. LSU also returns William Patrick, who started a few games in the corner outfield in 2026. There just wasn't a path to immediate playing time for Murphy.

The MLB Draft played out well for the Tigers, and LSU will sign more of its high school class than some projected. That means LSU has to figure out how to trim the roster. Murphy flipping his pledge will help LSU head coach Jay Johnson get the numbers he needs.

Murphy's defensive skills are elite and he should factor into Miami's plans next year, but LSU will be fine.
