Phillies Should Target This $113 Million Giants Star

The Philadelphia Phillies have watched Brandon Marsh have an All-Star year, but with Adolis Garcia on the injured list and Justin Crawford posting an OPS below .700, the Phillies could use an outfielder.
The San Francisco Giants are poised to be sellers, and reports suggest that they are interested in offloading some of their bigger contracts. Unlike Willy Adames, Matt Chapman and Rafael Devers, Jung Hoo Lee has actually played very well. He could be a player the Phillies actually target.

The Phillies may prefer a right-handed bat in the outfield, but it will be hard to turn down an outfielder with a .303 average and a .761 OPS just because he hits from the left side. Lee's power numbers are not great, but he's playing in a ballpark known for killing home run numbers. Barry Bonds was the last Giants player to have a 30-homer season until Willy Adames last season.
Lee wasn't known for his home run numbers in Korea either, but he could see a slight uptick in Philadelphia. Regardless, his contact skills and ability to put the ball in play could be great to have in front of guys like Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.
Lee ranks in the 96th percentile for whiff rate and strikeout rate. He would certainly be an upgrade over their current options alongside Marsh. The Phillies may be able to land him for minimal prospect capital too if they are willing to take on all of his salary. He signed a six-year, $113 million deal in 2023. He will make $23.25 million next year and then has an opt-out in 2028. If he does not opt out, he will make $20.5 million in 2028 and 2029.
Things have clearly not worked out for the Giants as they would have hoped, and trading a player like Lee for young assets could help them get ready for the future.
