Webb City softball loses opener against defending world champs

The Webb City Senior Little League softball All-Stars struggled to find an answer against Michigan starting pitcher Danielle Golen and fell 13-0 in a run rule-shortened game in the opener of the Central Regional in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
The first-round draw was a tough one for Webb City. The Michigan team from Grand Blanc won the 2025 Senior Little League Softball World Series, outscoring opponents 82-5 in the process.

On Tuesday at the Central Region tournament, Golen fanned 12 Webb batters in five innings and gave up just one hit, a line drive single to left by Webb City’s Christianna Marney in the top of the second.
Golen allowed just two baserunners in the game. Webb City’s Tiphani Sutten drew a lead-off walk in the top of the fourth to join Marney as their only players to reach base.
The Michigan All-Stars provided plenty of pop at the plate to back up Golen. Reagen Allen smacked a lead-off homer in the top of the second and Harper Lowe followed suit in the top of the third with a lead-off bomb of her own.
Michigan jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, added another run in both the second and third frames and exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to the win.
Webb starter Marney gave up 11 runs on nine hits, while striking out none and walking four in three innings. Reliever Allie Mealman gave up two runs on three hits. She struck out none and walked one in one inning of relief.
Hannah Johnson led Michigan at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a run.
Webb City will look to stay alive in the tourney when it battles either Indiana, Ohio or Kentucky at 9 a.m. Wednesday local time. Indiana received a first-round bye and was slated to play late Tuesday against the winner of Tuesday’s early game between Ohio and Kentucky.
