Kentucky Wildcats News: Archie Goodwin saves the season for La Familia vs The Ville

La Familia needed a big boost headed into the deciding Game 3 of TBT against The Ville.

That boost came in the form of Archie Goodwin.

Goodwin, who wasn’t able to make it for the first two games of the series, certainly made his presence known yesterday: scoring a team-high 22 points, including the game-winning shot.

Goodwin had been the subject of some fan frustration during the first two games of the tournament. After being such a key piece for the team last year, and after being announced as a member of this year’s roster, Goodwin wasn’t in town for the first two games – where his presence was clearly missed.

After Aaron Harrison posted on X about players no-showing, he and Goodwin got into a little back-and-forth online. That wasn’t really ideal for everyone, but Harrison made it clear the post wasn’t specifically aimed at Goodwin. La Familia had multiple issues with players seemingly committing to play and then not.

Goodwin addressed the situation after the game, noting that he has a young son that he hasn’t seen much due to playing basketball overseas.

“I got back home this year from a 10-month season on June 19th, which was probably the longest I’ve been gone in a while,” Goodwin said. “I have a seven-year-old son that I didn’t see for ten months in person. I didn’t get to go to any of his tutoring; I didn’t get to go to any of his basketball or baseball games, any of that. I only have two months…not even two months, a month-and-a-half before I have to leave to go back overseas.

So, my time that I have, I wanted to dedicate to him and show him how much he is loved and how much I support him. Because it’s hard to do it on FaceTime all the time. So, that’s the reason that you didn’t see any of these games, that first part when I wasn’t here. It was all because I wanted to give my son the time that he deserves, because he’s the most important thing in my life, both of my sons.”

Goodwin also spoke after the game about his appreciation for the Kentucky fans who have backed him and supported him during his time at Kentucky, as well as during his time playing for La Familia.

Archie Goodwin talks about how much he appreciated the real fans and how they have treated him these last two years.

Especially after how his year in Lexington went back in 2013.

Obviously Goodwin’s season at Kentucky did not go like he and all of BBN hoped it would, but it’s really cool to see him back in Lexington playing for La Familia. He’s certainly been a difference-maker and hopefully they keep it going on Sunday.
