The FFF published a statement which did not mention Zidane by name, mirroring the approach of the German Football Federation, which announced a Friday press conference without confirming Jürgen Klopp as its new coach. However, Klopp was unveiled in that press conference.
Zidane’s arrival has been an open secret for months, and the FFF is expected to formally approve the deal at a meeting held shortly before the presentation. He takes over from Didier Deschamps, who stepped down after 14 years in charge following France’s fourth-place finish at the World Cup, eight years on from their 2018 triumph. Zidane’s coaching record includes two spells at Real Madrid, from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2019 to 2021, during which he won three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles.
