News broke on Sunday that Bradley Barcola will not renew his contract at Paris Saint-Germain. Now, that isn't quite as dramatic as first seems.

Barcola's contract runs until 2028, so PSG aren't exactly up against it here. They could decide to hold onto him this summer and then sell in 2027, if they so want.

However, PSG have been trying to renew his deal. Confirmation that this won't happen essentially makes right now the peak of Barcola's value and it's only downhill from here.

As a result, journalist Santi Aouna reports that Liverpool have held talks with PSG over a deal. Barcola is at the top of the Reds' shortlist now a deal for Yan Diomande is entirely off the table and they now have a clear chance at signing him.

In fact, PSG simply holding talks is a sign that something can be done here. Barcola, who the Daily Mail say is valued at around £100m, isn't considered a guaranteed starter in Paris and now represents a chance for the European champions to get an awful lot of money without necessarily damaging their starting XI.

But there's a long way to go. Ultimately, PSG don't want to sell unless they feel they have to and it'll be up to Liverpool to persuade them.

Aouna reports that Barcola himself does want to move to Anfield and views Liverpool as his priority destination. That certainly gives the Reds an advantage over other clubs - but we still don't believe they'll get a discount from PSG here.

Anfield Watchfirst revealed an interest in Barcola back in April and now it seems that Liverpool's work may pay off. This promises to be the major story of the summer at Anfield.

Hopefully, one with a happy ending.
