Matt Campbell highlights wide receiver room during Big Ten media day

Throughout Big Ten media day, new Penn State head coach Matt Campbell had to field a lot of questions about his new-look squad and how it would compete in the Big Ten. However, the most important question was seemingly about which position would be one of interest throughout the season. Campbell had a very obvious answer.
The wide receivers always seem to be the elephant in the room for the Nittany Lions as they always underwhelm after an entire offseason of hype. However, the pressure on the wideouts this year is heightened due to the fact that they are all mostly transfers. In fact, only three scholarship players from last year's roster remain and only one got onto the field for meaningful snaps. However, Campbell's four transfers from Iowa State are expected to carry the load this season.

One of those is fifth-year senior Chase Sowell, who had to battle several injuries last season, but still posted 500 yards for the Cyclones last season.
"Chase Sowell had a very good season, and the difference between good and great, I think, is the evolution that you hope he made this offseason," Campbell said. "He had some monumental games, some huge moments."
Another could be his teammate Brett Eskildsen, who had a similar season, but just edged out Sowell for the receiving yards lead on the team. Both of those two guys could be the potent 1-2 punch that Penn State fans have been waiting for for years.
In terms of breakout candidates, Campbell was quick to mention redshirt freshman Zay Robinson. Although he may not see the field much, if at all this season, Campbell highlighted how "most of the Big Ten" was after Robinson, so "it was a huge recruiting win for us."
Last but certainly not least, safety turned receiver Amarion Jackson, another Iowa State transfer, turned heads in fall camp. "What he has shown as a young freshman with maturity and having phenomenal spring [has been encouraging]," Campbell said.
The bottom line is that for years, Penn State fans have been waiting for this kind of depth in their wide receiver room. Now that they finally have it, it will be all about producing results on the field to prove their status.
