Kevin Durant admits 76ers with LeBron James are like the 2018 Warriors on paper

Kevin Durant has high hopes for the Philadelphia 76ers after they added LeBron James in free agency.
Durant was the central piece of one of the greatest superteams in modern NBA history, winning two titles in a three-year stint with the Golden State Warriors from 2016 to 2019.

However, Durant believes there finally might be a team with a similarly stacked roster after the 76ers announced the signing of LeBron.

In an interview with Ben Golliver, Durant compared LeBron’s 76ers to the Warriors’ rosters he was on alongside Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
“The last time they put three 20-point scorers on a team, they said it was unfair, which was the team I was on. They have got four 25-point scorers on this team. So, hell yeah, I think they’re going to be a contender.”
While Durant’s comparison is with the Warriors, the last time he was on a roster with three 20-point scorers was with the 2023 Phoenix Suns, featuring Devin Booker, himself, and Bradley Beal.
He was also on the same roster as Kyrie Irving and James Harden on the Brooklyn Nets as well.
The 76ers do have four elite scorers in LeBron (20.9 PPG), Jaylen Brown (28.7 PPG), Tyrese Maxey (28.3 PPG), and Joel Embiid (26.9 PPG).

There’s only one ball, so scoring will be divided amongst the four and the rest of the roster tactfully. The roster will need to ensure it can keep up defensively as well.
The Warriors were the last truly star-driven team to win a championship, with elite roster-building and complementary role players being the recipe for success in the NBA over the last decade.
Durant’s praises might backfire if the 76ers can’t organize their two-way play on the court, but with a motivated championship unit, anything is possible for a team with this much top-end talent.
