The matchup is set to honor former Harvard’s head coach Tommy Amaker, who is a 2001 inductee into Duke’s Hall of Fame.
Amaker has been at the helm in Cambridge since 2007 and has a record of 321-206 with the Crimson, appearing in four editions of the NCAA Tournament. Before taking the reins at Harvard, he was an assistant at Duke from 1988-97 before taking the head coaching job at Seton Hall in 1997. Amaker then served as Michigan’s man from 2001-2007 before settling in with Harvard.
While at Duke, Amaker was named a third-team All-American and second-team All-ACC player in 1987 while averaging 12.3 points per game and being named Defensive Player of the Year.
When the news was announced, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer expressed his excitement to welcome back one of the legendary figures in program history.
“Tommy is one of the people who helped shape Duke basketball into what it is today, first as an incredible player and then as a coach,” he said. “I have so much respect for the way he’s led throughout his career and for everything he’s built at Harvard.”
Amaker also commented on his return to Durham, expressing gratitude to the program.
“Our entire program is grateful to Duke basketball for making this opportunity possible through The Brotherhood Run series,” he said. “It will certainly be a meaningful moment for me to return to Cameron Indoor Stadium - a place that is filled with so many special memories.”
This year’s edition of the Brotherhood Run is set for Dec. 4 with broadcast information becoming available closer to the date of the game.
“The opportunity to compete against someone who embodies The Brotherhood is unbelievable for our players. It’s part of the history and tradition that makes this program so special,” Scheyer said.
