Western Railway Generates ₹83.25 Crore Through Ticket Checking Drives During April – July 2026

Western Railway continues its sustained efforts to curb ticketless and irregular travel through extensive ticket checking drives across its network. In line with its commitment towards revenue protection and promoting travel discipline, the Ticket Checking staff of Western Railway has delivered an impressive performance during the current financial year.

a highly motivated team of ticket checking staff, under the active supervision of Senior Commercial Officers, carried out intensive ticket checking drives in Mumbai suburban local trains, long-distance Mail/Express trains, passenger trains and holiday special trains with the objective of minimizing revenue leakage and ensuring travel discipline.
During the period from April to July 2026, Western Railway detected over 11.30 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers, including cases of unbooked luggage, resulting in the realization of fines amounting to ₹83.25 crore. During July 2026 alone, over 1.80 lakh ticketless and irregular passengers were detected, leading to the realization of fines amounting to almost ₹14.50 crore.
Western Railway has also continued focused ticket checking drives in AC suburban local trains to prevent unauthorized travel by general ticket holders. During the period from April to July 2026, more than 64,000 penalty cases were detected in AC suburban services, resulting in the realization of ₹2.45 crore, registering an increase of almost 162% over the corresponding period last year, when ₹93.40 lakh was realized.
During one such ticket checking drive conducted in an AC suburban local train,
Shri Arvind Singh, Chief Commercial Ticket Checker (CCTC), Mumbai Central Division, detected a passenger travelling with a forged UTS mobile ticket generated through a fake mobile application using a genuine UTS ticket number. During verification, it was found that the passenger had downloaded the fake application through a YouTube link. Subsequently, a FIR was registered at Mumbai Central Police Station under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Western Railway advises passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspected fraudulent activities to railway officials or the Government Railway Police (GRP) immediately.
