Gujarat's Oscillating Mystery Well In Morbi Leaves Internet Scratching Heads; Viral Videos Has Netizens Saying 'Its Haunted'
· Free Press Journal

A farm well in Gujarat's Morbi district has become the center of widespread online curiosity after videos showed its water continuously rippling without any visible disturbance. The unusual sight has fueled speculation on social media, with theories ranging from supernatural forces to underground geological activity.
The well belongs to farmer Pranjivanbhai Sadariya in Virparda village and is approximately 18 feet deep. According to locals, the strange movement began after heavy monsoon rainfall in early August filled the well. Soon after the rains, the water reportedly turned muddy before developing persistent wave-like oscillations that have continued despite calm weather conditions.

Interestingly, nearby wells in the same area have reportedly remained completely still, making the phenomenon even more intriguing for residents.

Scientific explanations gain attention
While many online users treated the incident as a mystery, others pointed toward natural geological processes as the likely cause.
One commenter explained, "It’s not magic or a miracle-it’s hydrogeology," suggesting that groundwater pressure, confined aquifers, underground rock fractures, and changes in air pressure can naturally produce oscillations in well water.
Another user speculated that movement within an underground aquifer could be responsible for the continuous ripples.

District collector responds
According to ANI, District collector Swapnil Khare said,"... Based on reports circulating on social media about the well in Virparda, district geologists visited the site today. Their preliminary assessment suggests the water movement is likely caused by trapped air beneath the water. As the trapped air shifts, it creates movement on the water's surface... The Gujarat Groundwater Research Institute has also been asked to conduct a detailed study and submit a report."
For now, the Virparda well remains an object of fascination, drawing attention from curious locals and social media users alike. Whether viewed as a geological oddity or simply an internet sensation, the continuously rippling well has sparked conversations about the hidden dynamics of groundwater beneath the Earth's surface.
