While the Detroit Red Wings have still not traded disgruntled captain Dylan Larkin, they have added a few new players to their roster this offseason. Among the Red Wings’ newcomers are Viktor Arvidsson, Keegan Kolesar, Daniil Tarasov, and Jacob Bryson.
Although the Red Wings have been active, it is fair to argue that they should not be done making additions yet. When looking at their current roster, it is clear that they have some areas that they should be looking to strengthen.

One specific area on the Red Wings’ roster that could use a boost is their blueline. Due to this, they are now being viewed as a fit for the NHL’s top remaining UFA defenseman.
In a recent article for Pro Hockey Rumors, Brennan McClain urged the Red Wings to consider signing defenseman Logan Stanley as he remains on the free agent market.
“Unfortunately for Stanley, although his size is unique, there is already a decent saturation of left-handed defensemen in the NHL, leaving his current market relatively limited,” McClain wrote. “Of the teams that could use some more depth, especially on the left side of the blue line, a few options remain. The Detroit Red Wings are as big a question mark as any team heading into next season, but they could use an improvement over Albert Johansson on the team’s bottom-pairing.”
With the Red Wings’ left side not being the strongest, it could make a lot of sense for them to take a gamble on Stanley. He could be a strong fit on their roster as they look to prove their doubters wrong in 2026-27.
Logan Stanley Would Give the Red Wings a Hard-Nosed Defenseman With Size
If the Red Wings brought in Stanley, he would undoubtedly provide their blueline with more toughness and size. The 6-foot-7, 231-pound defenseman is well-known for playing with an edge, and that is made apparent by his 128 penalty minutes and 110 hits in 76 games this past season.
The Red Wings could use size and bite on their blueline, so bringing in a defenseman on a short-term deal like Stanley would have the potential to benefit them. He would make the Red Wings more challenging to go up against, which would not be the worst thing in the world for a Detroit club that is hoping to end its 10-year playoff drought.
Stanley’s Career Year Also Makes Him An Intriguing Option for the Red Wings
Although Stanley has developed a reputation for being a tough stay-at-home defenseman, he also demonstrated last season that he can provide some offense from the point. The big blueliner set new career bests with nine goals, 17 assists, and 26 points in 76 games last season split between the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres. If he signed with Detroit and produced numbers like these again, he would be a very solid pickup for them.
Ultimately, on a one- or two-year contract, Stanley could be a good fit for a retooling Red Wings club. This is especially so when noting that he is right in his prime at 28 years old.
