Brennan collected his second victory in the last three weeks for Titleist’s mysterious GTS prototype 3-wood. The 24-year-old was actually the first player to be spotted with the unknown GTS fairway wood option at the Texas Children’s Houston Open during the GTS driver launch, but didn’t game the prototype until two months later at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Titleist has thus far not commented on the prototype, but we can speculate that the GTS may have similar characteristics to the GT1 3Tour fairway wood that both Brennan and Cameron Young — who switched to the prototype this week — previously played.
Like Young, Brennan also plays a GTS3 7-wood, which was a new addition this generation to the “3” fairway wood lineup. Previous Titleist “3” models only went up to the 18-degree loft.
He told Titleist both fairway woods helped him eliminate a left miss off the tee and he loved the look at address.
Other than the fairway woods, Brennan’s bag is essentially the same as it was when he burst onto the scene with his win last October at the Bank of Utah Championship. He still plays a GT3 driver and split set of T100 and 620 CB irons while upgrading from the SM10 to SM11 wedges. Brennan did switch from a T-Grind to M-Grind after working with Vokey Wedge Rep Aaron Dill this week at Sedgefield Country Club.
Brennan also switched putters in March at the Valspar Championship to his current GoLo 6 mid-mallet from a Phantom 7.2. Brennan said he was drawn to the round profile of the GoLo and how it released. This week, he was second in the field in SG: Putting (+8.958) and led the field in feet of putts made (443 feet, 10 inches).
