Colts WR Alec Pierce reportedly had another PRP injection in rehabbing left ankle

According to The Athletic’s James Boyd, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce had another PRP injection in his rehabbing left ankle, which underwent minor cleanup surgery earlier this offseason:

While the timing of the second injection is unclear following surgery, it wasn’t publicly disclosed by the team. That being said, Boyd later noted that the second PRP injection wasn’t considered a setback by a team source. However, there’s still no clear timetable for his return to the football field.
For those not in the medical field, a PRP injection is a ‘platelet-rich plasma’ injection to help repair damaged tissues and ease joint pain as a form of medical treatment.
The last public update we had received was from Pierce himself, when in early June, he indicated to the local media that there was a four-to-six month recovery timeline from his minor ankle surgery in late March.However, the hope was that he’d realistically return by late team training camp.
For what it’s worth, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter said on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Monday that the Colts maintain that Pierce will be ready for the regular season opener.
It’s of key concern for the Coltsbecause not only did Pierce recently ink a once historic 4-year, $114 million contract (with $84 million guaranteed), but given the trade of longtime veteran Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it’s a wide receiver corps that looks a lot less formidable without him along the outside.
There’s Josh Downs, who’s injured himself right now, manning the slot, and then his wide receiver teammates such as Ashton Dulin, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and rookie 7th round pick Deion Burks are the ‘next men up!’
