The Vikings' offense is going to have a lot of eyes on it this weekend when they face off with the New York Giants. Of course, the main reason folks will be watching and tracking how things go will be due to the quarterback battle going on between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy.

The running game has been receiving some talk of being improved this offseason with coaching and player additions. Equally, the wide receiver depth is always entertaining to see who can make plays behind their top two options in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
With that in mind, here are our three keys to the Vikings' offense against the Giants in their preseason opener.
1) Let Kyler Murray get creative
The Vikings have not had a quarterback who can extend plays and make them with their legs in some time. Kyler Murray likes to get creative, and Kevin O'Connell and Wes Phillips owe it to him to allow him to showcase himself as who he is in this battle. I think Murray makes a play or two with his legs and showcases his arm talent in and out of the pocket.
2) Allow J.J. McCarthy to take some chances
J.J. McCarthy has been very conservative in his pass attempts in his NFL career and in camp this year, based on reporting. The Vikings need to give McCarthy as much of a chance at winning this job as Murray does. To do that, they need to encourage him to flex that arm of his and show he can push the ball down the field.
3) Utilize the run game more efficiently
The running game under Kevin O'Connell has never been great. The team needs to establish the run in 2026 to help out their quarterback, to control time of possession, and to show they can be a complete unit. Folks are really excited to see rookie Demond Claiborne, who is getting hyped up by Aaron Jones. If he can provide a spark to their offense, then he will need to be featured more going forward.
