Parker Washington keeps shining against surging Jaguars defense

As the Jacksonville Jaguars prepare for the first preseason match of the 2026 season, training camp continues on in full swing. As camp has progressed, there have been good plays across the board, but one of the biggest storylines has clearly been the defense, which has often held the advantage over the offense.

The biggest example of this, as reported by SI.com's John Shipley, took place during Tuesday's training camp practice. The defense overwhelmed the offense so thoroughly that head coach Liam Coen cut practice short.

This doesn't mean there weren't any good plays from the offense, however. Lawrence is still generally performing well, and the run game in particular looks good. But one player in particular is thriving, despite how solid the defense has been, and that is wide receiver Parker Washington.

"Even on days where the defense easily has the edge, Parker Washington is still impressing," wrote Shipley. "It has become a daily occurrence during training camp this season as Washington has separated himself as Trevor Lawrence's favorite target in one of the NFL's best wide receiver rooms, and this was again the case during an otherwise lackluster offensive day on Tuesday."

Washington has noted that his bond with Lawrence has grown over the past year, and that has become abundantly clear as training camp has progressed.

This follows his 2025 breakout season, in which he surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the Jaguars' final four games. That he has continued to excel in training camp against a surging Jacksonville defense is a huge sign of what to expect for 2026.

Of course, training camp is not the same as playing in a regular season game. But it is still a good reason to be optimistic, and it says a lot about Washington and how talented he is that he continues to be the best player on the offense, even against one of the best defenses in the NFL.
