Samsunspor fans have hit out after former Celtic target Elliot Watt was ruled out of their Turkish Super Lig opener due to a ban handed down in Scotland.
The midfielder joined the Turkish side this summer following an impressive campaign at Motherwell, where his performances reportedly prompted an enquiry from Celtic.

However, Watt arrived at his new club carrying a four-match SFA suspension after his furious reaction to a controversial late penalty awarded to the Hoops last season.
Watt described referee John Beaton’s decision as “the worst VAR decision in history”, with the governing body subsequently taking action against him.
There had been hope the suspension would not carry over following his move abroad, but without a successful appeal from Samsunspor, Watt is set to sit out their opening league clash with Goztepe.
The remaining three games of his suspension are currently on hold pending further developments.
The situation has sparked an extraordinary reaction among sections of the Samsunspor support, with some fans on X suggesting Celtic benefit from favourable treatment in Scottish football.
One page wrote: “Our boy was right. But it seems there’s a structure in Scotland too. The Celtic structure”.
Another, @gencebay_, wrote: “In Scotland, there’s already a Celtic structure in place.
“The guys entered the field before the match had ended [on the last day vs Hearts], and the match should have been forfeited by default, but was finished.”
@CarloEmnHolse wrote: “So that Celtic’s title hopes would keep going, they gave them a free penalty, and then a super angry [Watt] said ‘this is the worst VAR use in history’, then the p—-d-off federation goes nuts over it”.
There appears to be no shortage of newly-qualified Scottish football experts emerging in northern Turkey.
Watt was one of Motherwell’s standout performers last term, thriving in a controlling midfield role under Jens Berthel Askou and attracting interest from elsewhere.
Celtic were reportedly among his admirers before the 26-year-old opted for a move to Samsunspor.
