Clemson’s Dabo Swinney calls team ‘bunch of nobodies’ at fall camp

With just under a month to go until the college football season is underway, teams across the nation are gearing up for what they hope to be a competitive year, including Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers.
As Swinney heads into year 23 at Clemson, coming off a 7-6 record, he’ll look to navigate his Tigers back to the top of the ACC after a 2025 season that the seasoned head coach would certainly like to forget.

Bringing in a new wave of transfers, Clemson added multiple players to their defense to replace the seven lost starters from last year.

The Tigers will also turn to Christopher Vizzina as their starting quarterback this fall, a 6-foot-4 Alabama native who’s shown flashes at Clemson in 2024 and 2025.
However, after hearing Coach Swinney’s recent comments from practice, fans may want to temper their anticipation for the season and possibly prepare for another year of building toward the top of the ACC.
On Tuesday’s media scrum following Clemson’s fall camp practice, Swinney did not hold back when asked about any players who he thought were standouts.
“Everybody’s just working,” Swinney stated to reporters. “We’re just a bunch of nobodies. We’ll see if anybody becomes somebody as we play some games.”
Some straightforward criticism from the Tigers’ head coach, but some that could light a fire under the team just as the season creeps up.
How Clemson responds this season will be the true answer to Swinney’s fall camp analysis. Still, for now, these “nobodies” will hope to prove to their head coach that they indeed are somebodies in 2026.
