Golden State Warriors fans have spent the offseason wondering if the front office's quiet summer and an injury-prone roster signaled cracks in the plan to keep Stephen Curry in the Bay for good. General manager Mike Dunleavy shut that speculation down this week.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, he left no doubt about where the front office stands on keeping the four-time NBA champion in a Warriors uniform for life.
"He hasn't [said any different]," the Warriors GM said, per ESPN. "That's always been the message. That's always been what he's discussed. I think that's tracking quite well."
Curry's current contract with the Golden State Warriors is scheduled to officially end at the conclusion of the 2026-27 NBA season. However, the team can legally offer him a new extension on August 29.
If he accepts and signs the upcoming max offer of $136.7 million, it will prolong his deal for two additional years, bringing his total remaining contract value to $199.2 million and locking him in with the franchise until the end of the 2028-29 season.
Both sides want to continue the relationship, and sources continue to express optimism that the two sides will figure out a way to keep the partnership going for the foreseeable future.
"There's two things I'm confident about with Steph," Dunleavy also said. "He really, really wants to win and he wants to finish his career as a Warrior. I don't think that changes tomorrow, Aug. 29, start of the season, middle of the season, end of next season."
Curry, who turns 38 this season, missed significant time last year. He averaged 26.6 points per game in 43 appearances, shooting 39.3 percent on an average of over 11 three-point attempts per game.
However, a two-month battle with his knee forced him to miss 39 games. Despite that injury history, Dunleavy and his front office isn't hesitating about the Warriors' future with Curry.
He added, "Ultimately, it's his call, his decision, whether that's allowing his contract to run out and move on. Look, if he comes to me and wants to be moved, Joe and I will talk it through. We wouldn't love it. But he's earned the right to do what he wants."
So, for now, Curry is staying with the Warriors and Golden State's front office is very clear about this decision.
