Human remains found in Barrie as police launch investigation

Barrie police are investigating after human remains were discovered Thursday afternoon.
“Police are investigating in the area of Tiffin St. and Anne St., following the discovery of human remains,” Barrie Police posted on X . “Investigators are working to determine the nature of the remains. Officers will remain in the area as the investigation continues.”
The remains were found at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The discovery was made in the same area as a grisly double homicide that occurred last summer at the Bradford St. homeless encampment near Anne and Victoria Sts.

“While this discovery was in close proximity to the double homicide last summer at the former encampment, police will be investigating it as a separate incident,” the police said in a statement. “If detectives make any connection to another investigation, those details will be shared when possible. It’s very early in the investigation and it would be inappropriate to make assumptions about the nature of the remains.”
As a result of that case, Robert Ladouceur, 53, is facing first‑degree murder, second‑degree murder, committing an indignity to a human body, and several drug and weapons charges in connection with the murder and dismemberment of 45‑year‑old William “Blake” Robinson and 41‑year‑old David Cheesequay. Ladouceur faces a total of 33 charges in the double murder case.
Investigators are treating Thursday’s discovery as a separate incident. Detectives will release any information about potential links to other cases if and when those connections are established.
Barrie police are also cautioning the public against drawing conclusions about the nature of the remains.
The investigation has now been taken over by Barrie’s Major Crime Unit.
Police say more information will be released when it becomes available.
