A.J. Brown's icy answer on Eagles Jalen Hurts as he praises Drake Maye

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. − When A.J. Brown was traded to the Eagles in 2022, he saw it as a chance to play with his best friend, Jalen Hurts.
They posted a video of working out together, of Hurts being the godfather to Brown's daughter. And for three seasons, it worked out well as the Eagles went to two Super Bowls, winning one, and Brown had the two highest totals for yards receiving in a season, with 1,496 in 2022 and 1,456 the next season.

But times have certainly changed. Brown was traded June 1 to the New England Patriots amid reports that their relationship had gotten frosty. That was evident Aug. 19 after the first day of joint practice sessions between Brown's old team, the Eagles, and his new team, the Patriots.

Brown was seen on the field after practice talking to several ex-Eagles teammates, but Hurts was not one of them. Brown was asked after the practice session if he had talked to Hurts since the June 1 trade.
"No," Brown said, not elaborating.
He was then asked how things were left between him and Hurts.
"Philly, man, y’all are tough," he said with a laugh about reporters who cover the Eagles. "It’s love. Listen, honestly guys, none of that stuff even matters. You all should want to report something positive. You know asking the question is going to turn negative. So let’s not get into that and keep everything positive. Just love my way. Let’s move forward."
Brown could have said that he and Hurts are still close, that they just wanted some space. That is not what Brown implied in his response.
For his part, Hurts, too, said he had not talked to Brown. But he was more measured in his response: "No, I didn't get to yet," Hurts said.
Then he was asked about being on the same field with Brown.
"I think it was a great day out here," Hurts said. "I mean, I know he's going out there and competing. Got a lot of love for him. I always have. It seems like it was competitive practice. So I saw him catching a lot (of passes)."
That certainly doesn't sound like the two are still best friends.
Brown, comparatively, was much more praiseworthy of Patriots QB Drake Maye, when asked about adjusting to a new quarterback for the first time in four years.
"There have definitely been some challenges," Brown said. "But he’s very special. He makes my job a lot easier. Just learning how he sees the game and get on the same page. It’s definitely a learning curve, and we’ll continue to keep working at that."
Then Brown added about Maye: "He’s very special. He has a lot of arm talent. He can place the ball anywhere. And the way he sees the game and sees the field."
