Former Syracuse Quarterback to Earn Starting Job at New School

Former Syracuse quarterback Rickie Collins is expected to be named as the starting quarterback at Kennesaw State this fall, according to a report from CBS Sports.
Collins, who played at LSU before Syracuse, transferred into SU for the 2025 season and started five games in relief of Steve Angeli, who missed eight games with a torn Achilles tendon.

Syracuse lost all eight games that Angeli missed and therefore lost all five of Collins's starts.
He was a former four-star recruit out of high school. Collins was just 97-of-181 passing (54 percent) with six touchdowns and 10 interceptions for the Orange. He wasn't the only quarterback to transfer at the conclusion of the 2025 season: Luke Carney did as well.
Ironically, the reason the starting job is open at Kennesaw State is because their previous starting quarterback, Amari Odom, left via the transfer portal to join Syracuse.
While it's unclear where Odom will land on the depth chart at this time, he will be one of the backups to Angeli, who will be the starter again this season.
Syracuse was 3-1 in games he started before getting injured.
The Orange are currently in Week 3 of training camp and are closing in on the regular season opener, which is Sept. 5 against New Hampshire at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange were picked to finish 14th in the 17-team Atlantic Coast Conference.

--Wide receiver Justus Ross-Simmons, who spent the last two years in an Orange uniform, was back with the team at practice this week. He's been granted a fifth year of eligibility under recent court injunctions, but there's no guarantee he actually suits up for SU. The NCAA is working to get these court decisions reversed.
As for Syracuse Athletics as a whole...On Tuesday, ESPN's Joe Lunardi, the most decorated "bracketologist" out there, released a "way too early bracketology" for the 2026-27 season, and Syracuse was nowhere to be found. This is consistent with his very first "bracketology" projection, which came on July 15.
The Orange haven't made the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-21 season.
What's extra disappointing about Lunardi's projections is that there are additional chances to make the NCAA Tournament this year as the tournament is expanding from 68 to 76 teams.
