Texans HC DeMeco Ryans says RB Woody Marks has increased confidence, refined route running in camp

Last season, Woody Marks led the Houston Texans in rushing as a rookie.
This year, Marks will be taking a back seat to veteran back David Montgomery, the projected Texans' starting running back who joined Houston via trade this offseason. While Marks is no longer in the leading role, head coach DeMeco Ryans has seen a lot of improvement out of him going back to OTAs.

"Woody has shown confidence back since OTAs,” Ryans said. “Seeing him running the football, looking faster, quicker, but also in the passing game, excelling. He is very defined at the top of his routes, which is cool to see. He's a tough cover because he's so quick. He can beat you deep and also beat you underneath as well. He's done a really great job."

“I really liked the way we ran the football. Stuck well onto our blocks & finished well. Our running backs, they were the highlight of the day for me, the way they ran the ball, physical, low pad… pic.twitter.com/2k7mFc5PnQ
Marks had a decent season last year with 703 rushing yards and two touchdowns. However, the Texans need more out of their starting running back to take some pressure off quarterback C.J. Stroud and have a more balanced offensive attack.
But even though he's now the backup, Marks should play a role in this offense since Montgomery is not expected to be a bellcow in this offense. Rather, Montgomery and Marks can be Houston’s two-headed monster in the backfield. Having both running backs should allow the Texans to be much better as a running offense this season as opposed to last year, when they were one of the worst rushing offenses in the league.
