WESTFIELD — Keenan Allen has always worn No. 13.

Allen made the number famous with the Chargers, wearing it in both San Diego and Los Angeles, and when he went to Chicago in 2024, the No. 13 was waiting for him.
Veteran wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who is battling for a roster spot right now, has No. 13 in Indianapolis.
But it doesn’t sound like Allen is quite ready to give up on the idea of wearing the No. 13 with the Colts.
“I just talked to Laquon about it,” Allen said on Wednesday. “We’re just going to play it by ear. He’s a vet, too, so I definitely don’t want to come in stepping on toes.”
Allen is currently listed as No. 10 on the Colts’ roster, and he’ll likely wear it through the rest of the preseason.
What happens after the preseason is anybody’s guess. Allen’s signing likely put Treadwell on the roster bubble; the veteran is battling for a spot on the 53-man roster, and Treadwell has worn seven different numbers during the decade he’s spent in the NFL.
Of course, No. 10 is also worn by kicker Blake Grupe, who is also battling for a roster spot. Allen and Grupe can both wear No. 10 in the preseason since a 90-man roster often requires doubling up on numbers; with the two players unlikely to appear on the field at the same time.
For the moment, though, Allen is focused on getting up to speed with the rest of the Colts.
The No. 13 can come later.
“We’ll talk about it after the preseason,” Allen said.
Allen’s always had it, the number once worn in Indianapolis by T.Y. Hilton.
From the sounds of it, he might like to wear it again.
