Have Prince Harry and Meghan had enough of the United States?

It looks like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be moving back to the United Kingdom later this month with the intention of settling in a private, non-royal residence outside of London, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The couple’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, previously attended school near their Montecito, Calif., home. They will now continue their education in Britain.

King informed of move over the weekend

King Charles was told of the move on Sunday. He was reportedly unaware of the move before the weekend, but welcomed the chance to see more of Prince Harry and his family.

The Sussexes had visited Harry’s father at Highgrove last month, but the move wasn’t discussed, BBC News reported.

There are no current plans for Prince Harry or Meghan to resume their royal duties.

Prince William and Princess Catherine are also aware of the Sussexes’ relocation plans.

Sussexes moved to U.S. in 2000

Prince Harry and Meghan moved to the U.S. after Prince Archie was born in Britain in 2019.

In 2020, the couple left the U.K. after stepping back from Royal duties. They moved into a reported $14-million, nine-bedroom home in Montecito, a home they will retain after they move out, People reported.

Princess Lilibet was born in California in 2021.

The royal children have been to the U.K. twice since their move to California.

In 2022, the Sussexes and their children returned for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Prince Harry and Meghan returned later that year for the Queen’s state funeral.

The entire family visited King Charles this past July.

Before the July visit, the Royal family’s relations were strained, per BBC News , noting the recent trip was a key development in mending that relationship.

Security has been the couple’s long-standing bone of contention in the U.K. The July visit had been reconsidered after Prince Harry’s request for police protection was shot down.

In 2025, the Duke of Sussex lost a legal battle over security levels he and his family are entitled to while in his homeland. Prince Harry had sought to overturn a ruling that had his security detail downgraded after he stepped back from his royal duties and moved to the U.S.

The prince had previously stated that the safety of him and his family prevented them from returning to the U.K.
