The San Francisco 49ers are releasing veteran linebacker Deion Jones, who they acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints just one week prior, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Saints also released Zamir White, who they acquired from San Francisco in exchange for Jones, meaning neither player in the straight-up swap made their new team's 53-man roster.

New Orleans signed Jones, a New Orleans native and former LSU standout, on Aug. 8. He spent two weeks with the Saints before they flipped him to San Francisco for emergency backfield depth amid injuries to Alvin Kamara, Devin Neal, and Ty Chandler.

White's stay was even shorter, though he made an impact in his only appearance. He rushed four times for 23 yards and an 11-yard touchdown in his preseason finale against the Dallas Cowboys. Ultimately, New Orleans lost nothing of consequence but also gained nothing lasting. The trade was essentially net neutral, with both teams swapping likely roster cuts before reaching the same conclusion days later.
