LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/ WEUX) - The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs are set for a crucial four-game series at Wrigley Field as the calendar turns to September.

Milwaukee enters the series with an eight-game lead over Chicago in the National League Central. The Brewers are 85-52 on the season, while the Cubs sit at 77-60.
The four games in Chicago are the first of seven straight meetings between the division rivals. After the series at Wrigley Field, the teams will meet for three more games in Milwaukee from September 7 through September 9.
Milwaukee currently leads the season series 4-2. However, Chicago won the last series between the teams in June, giving the Cubs some momentum heading into this matchup.
The timing of the series adds even more importance. With September baseball underway, the Brewers are looking to protect their position at the top of the division and continue their push toward the postseason. Milwaukee also enters the series with the best record in baseball.
The Cubs, meanwhile, are trying to close the gap. Chicago is coming off a 7-5 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday and has gone 2-4 over its last six games. Pete Crow-Armstrong provided much of the offense in Sunday's loss, hitting two home runs to bring his season total to 38.
Milwaukee has also been getting strong production from its young core. Jackson Chourio enters the series after a big week at the plate, hitting three home runs and reaching 20 for the season.
With seven head-to-head games coming over the next 10 days, this could be one of the most important stretches of the season for both teams.
The four-game series at Wrigley Field runs Monday through Thursday before the teams meet again next week at American Family Field.
