Ohio State trooper rescues an abandoned puppy during a road-side check

An Ohio State Highway Patrol officer rescued a puppy during a highway rest area check in Medina County at approximately 8 a.m. on Aug. 23.
“We’ll get you out of here, OK? Someone left you. It’s OK,” Trooper John Kronander said in his body camera video as he approached the cage.
The dog was inside an abandoned cage with a piece of cardboard doubling as a makeshift roof. The video provided shows the moment when Kronander came upon the black and white pup. The puppy had been left without food or water.
After his removal from the crate, the dog was certainly in a playful mood, pawing and licking the right hand of the officer when Kronander asked him, “’How long have you been here?’ Are you pawing me? Oh, my gosh, you are pawing me.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper was doing a routine check at a rest area when he found the abandoned puppy inside a crate.

The zoomies
The trooper then faked to play a game of fetch with the dog, who was ready to play, despite his predicament. The young dog certainly had a mild case of the zoomies as he zipped around the officer. Eventually, the pup allowed the trooper to pick him up and place him in the passenger seat of the squad car.
“He took the puppy back to the patrol post for a couple hours, fed him, got the puppy some water and we contacted the local animal shelter where we could get the puppy safely to the proper authorities,” Sgt. Jeremy Kindler of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The dog was then taken to the Medina County SPCA. The shelter believes the dog is about three to four months old. The shelter says the dog will be neutered and available for adoption in the coming days and weeks. His name is ‘Miles.’
In the meantime, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reviewing surveillance footage from the area to identify who abandoned him.
“We are looking at security camera footage from around the area, but there’s no guarantee that we’ll be able to find the person responsible for this,” said Kindler.
