Piper High School Flag Football head coach Jimmy Thompson said this opportunity allows the girls to build strong relationships on and off the field

"They enjoy themselves every single day, but they go out there and they work hard," Thompson said. "The big thing that I've noticed with our girls is that they have each other's back."

Flag football is now an officially sanctioned high school sport in Kansas. With the help of the Kansas City Chiefs, these girls had the support of KC Wolf, Cheerleaders and the KSHSAA organization.

Four teams, De Soto, Spring Hill, Piper and Bishop Ward on one field, and a lot more on the line than a final score. They weren't just playing to win; they were showing other girls that there is a place for them here.

Hope McCallop plays for Piper High School and before the game even started, she was already thinking about the players who will come after them.

"We have good sportsmanship behind each other and we all like share with one another." McCallop said. "We're all going to be at with other's hearts and it's just girls supporting girls."

Nora Fogleman's only a fourth grader, but she was taking notes from the big girls.

"They know a lot more, so if I want to do flag football, I should probably learn a little bit more," she said.

They made history in Kansas Wednesday night, and their biggest impact won't be measured by the scoreboard. It'll be measured by how many little girls watched and thought 'I can do that too.'
