Dunham, Haven roll past Parkway, and see other Week 1 football winners

Dunham quarterback Elijah Haven gave an overt example why he is Louisiana’s No. 1 football recruit for 2027 on Friday night during the Stars and Stripes Border Classic, sponsored by the City of Shreveport at Independence Stadium.

The Alabama commitment accounted for 7 TDs rushing and passing in leading his team to a 56-15 dismantling of Parkway on Sept. 4. The 6-foot-5, 238-pound Haven led his team to an LHSAA state title last season, and his team is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 2A.
“I was just trying to extend plays for my team. That was the biggest thing,” Haven said. “My second nature kicks in when I have to get out of the pocket and make plays.”
Parkway coach Coy Brotherton saw all he wanted of the five-star recruit.
“He’s a big guy. Anytime they needed something short yardage, it was a guarantee that they’d get the first down with him running the ball,” Brotherton said. “We’ve got a lot to fix right now and not much time to do it.”
Airline 48, Wossman 42: Viking quarterback Chase Williams rushed for three scores and found Justin Woodfork and Drew Warren for additional TDs in the high-scoring contest. Chris Hart and Caleb Nunn also scored for Airline.
Loyola 55, Captain Shreve 34: Senior quarterback Bryce Restovich completed 21 of 34 passes for 327 yards and three TDs while rushing for 94 more yards and two additional scores to top the Gators. The Flyers’ Charlie McKenzie caught seven passes for 157 yards and a TD. For Shreve, Gabe Lockett had 15 rushes for 125 yards.
Benton 34, Northwood 26: Tigers’ quarterback Malachi Zeigler passed for three scores and rushed for two more with more than 350 total yards. Madden Raymond, Brayden Kimble and Abraham Patterson had TD catches. Northwood got a pair of TDs from Justin Dupree and one from Peyton Boone in the loss.
Minden 20, North Webster 14: The Tide’s Jaiden Johnson pass for two TDs to Kaiden King and ran for a game-clinching score late in the third quarter to help Minden get the win. Braylon Washington and Chandler McKenzie scored for NWHS.
North DeSoto 52, Union Parish 7: Griffin QB Mason Smith completed 21 of 29 passes for 310 yards and three TDs in his first start as a freshman. Derik White rushed 15 times for 112 yards and Braylen Moore pulled in 10 passes for 147 yards and a score.
Haughton 42, Homer 30: The Bucs’ Brandon Craig rushed for two TDs while Nolan Simmons, Isaac Jennings and Case Corkern scored a TD apiece. Greyson Johnson had an interception. For Homer, Jerzyion Levingston, Antonio Casey and Raymone Castro had receiving TDs.
Winnfield 20, Glenbrook 6: Jake Johnson returned an interception for a TD, while Nick Mockosher scored twice for the Tigers. Glenbrook’s score came on a 9-yard pass from Braxton Tibbitt to Brayson Festervan.
Bossier 42, North Caddo 7: Bearkat quarterback Montrevell Lewis rushed for three scores and passed for two more. Braelin Wiliams, Ron Dillard and Javeon Mitchell added TDs and Jalen Bacon pulled in two interceptions.
D’Arbonne Woods 57, Madison 0: The Timberwolves had six different people score rushing TDs, including two by Ethan Thrash in the runaway victory.
Ruston 42, Neville 16: The Bearcats had little trouble finding the end zone against the Tigers in the non-district matchup. Dalen Powell rushed for 221 yards and 5 TDs on the night while QB Sam Hartwell was an efficient 12-for-14 for 148 yards.
Booker T. Washington 54, Arcadia 0: The Lions found out they have plenty of offensive firepower in rolling over the Hornets. Defensive scores were turned in by Vincent Blake (fumble return) and Rickey Walker in the win.
Carroll 20, Woodlawn 14: The Knights came close to pulling out a victory for new coach Lavelle Wilson Jr. in his debut.
Ouachita Christian 42, Haynesville 6: The Tors couldn’t get their offense untracked against OCS and fell for a rare time at home.
Logansport 44, Many 38: Logansport was able to hold on and get past rapidly improving Many in a close one.
Mansfield 42, New Iberia 0: The Wolverines showed in their season opener that last year’s deep run in the playoffs may have been no fluke.
