Why Ryan Coleman-Williams remains a superstar to Alabama football despite drops
· Yahoo Sports
No matter what Week 1 looked like for Ryan Coleman-Williams during Alabama football's game against East Carolina, the junior wide receiver was going to take it with a grain of salt.
No part of the first game is ever as good as you think, Coleman-Williams said. And it's never as bad as you think.

In Alabama's 48-10 win against East Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 5, there was both good and bad for Coleman-Williams.
The good? He had five catches on 10 targets for 130 yards. The bad? He had one official drop, one drop on a play that was called back due to a penalty and added a fumble on a handoff that Coleman-Williams attributed to "bad communication."
"I just got to show up for my team," Coleman-Williams said. "I have a great young quarterback that expects me to make those plays. And I'm going to make those plays. Just get back to the drawing board, get back to work."
Outside of Bryant-Denny Stadium, attention fixated on the bad, associating drops with the proclamation Coleman-Williams made about not wearing gloves, accusing the junior receiver of having "the yips" or saying the development conversation surrounding him this offseason was not effective.
Inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, specifically on the sideline, it was the opposite.
"Stuff don't bother him like that," quarterback Keelon Russell said. "You know, he come to me and he was like, "I'm going to get you right. You know, I'm going to get us better.'"
That's who Coleman-Williams is, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said. Coleman-Williams, one of three team captains, is relentless, making his talent known with contested catches and catching balls in traffic.
"We're not going to shy away from going to Ryan, I know that," DeBoer said.
Russell took things a step further. No drop or mistake is getting into Coleman-Williams' head, Russell said. He has "a mindset of steel," one that is going to make history.
"At the end of the season, you're going to be looking at the best duo in the country," Russell said.
