Long-standing North York Mr. Sub hit with 10 health-code infractions

A fast-food restaurant that has been in its North York location for decades was served up numerous infractions by city health inspectors.

Mr. Sub at 3885 Keele St. received a conditional pass notice on Wednesday over 10 infractions — four crucial, five significant and one minor, according to Toronto Public Health .
The location, which has been a long-standing fixture on Keele St., just south of Finch Ave. W., remains open to the public.
The four crucial infractions included failing to process food in a manner safe to eat and failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration.
The sub shop also failed to ensure a food handler on the premises refrained from conduct that could result in food contamination, and did not ensure a food handler washed their hands as necessary to prevent contamination.
As for its five significant violations, the location was found to be using food equipment “not of readily cleanable form” and not sanitizing utensils in the proper solution — specifically, a “quaternary ammonium compound solution of less than 200 (parts per million).”
The restaurant also failed to maintain handwashing stations with soap and paper towels, did not keep its sanitary facility sanitary and used a dirty cloth to clean utensils.
The lone minor infraction was failing to ensure that equipment surfaces were sanitized as necessary.
