Elche midfielder sends warning to Real Madrid ahead of crucial La Liga clash: ‘We are really looking forward’

Elche may be the underdogs when Real Madrid arrive at the Martinez Valero on Tuesday, but Javi Morcillo has made it clear that the hosts have no intention of simply making up the numbers.
The Elche midfielder believes his side has already shown enough progress this season to approach the meeting with confidence, despite collecting only two points from their opening five La Liga matches.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have taken 12 points from their first five league games under Jose Mourinho and sit three points behind Barcelona.
A third successive victory in all competitions would put further pressure on the leaders, who face Racing on Wednesday.
Elche ready for Real Madrid test
That form makes the challenge facing Elche particularly demanding, but Morcillo insists the occasion is one his teammates are relishing rather than fearing.
“We’re really looking forward to the match. When a team like Madrid comes to our ground, it’s always special,” the midfielder said, as per Mundo Deportivo.

Elche will have only three days to recover from their demanding trip to Athletic, where they secured their second point of the campaign.
Morcillo believes that result offered further evidence that the team is beginning to find its feet.
The summer arrival from Atletico de Madrid described the draw in Bilbao positively, arguing that Elche are starting to see the rewards of their work.
Morcillo sees progress despite difficult start
Morcillo’s comments point to a squad that believes the results have not yet fully reflected its performances.
“We’re gradually seeing that we’re doing things right,” he said.
The task against Madrid, however, will demand considerably more from Elche.

This is because Mourinho’s side has scored freely and possesses the attacking quality to exploit weaknesses, while Elche have already conceded 13 goals in five league matches.
Martinez Valero atmosphere could matter
The home crowd could therefore become an important factor, and Morcillo was quick to recognise the role Elche supporters have played during the difficult opening weeks.
“They’re absolutely brilliant; we’re all one, and they’re our springboard,” concluded the footballer.
For Real Madrid, the numbers point towards a favourable opportunity to keep pace with Barcelona.
Elche’s defensive record suggests Real Madrid’s forwards should have chances, but the hosts’ attitude could make the fixture less straightforward than the league table indicates.
