Fresh off a 36-9 victory over the Western Illinois Leathernecks in Week 2, the Wisconsin Badgers are preparing for their final non-conference game of the season against the Eastern Michigan Eagles coming up on Saturday.
Wisconsin had a solid, yet uninspiring performance against Western Illinois, as an injury to Colton Joseph limited him and the passing game on another inconsistent day. Wisconsin did have some highlights in the run game from all three of their top backs (Abu Sama, Darrion Dupree, and Bryan Jackson), but they had stretches of minimal offense as well.

Defensively, Wisconsin looked slow for two quarters as Western Illinois was strong up front and in the run game, both with their running backs and with quarterback Kennedy McGill. That allowed for the Leathernecks to have multiple 10+ play drives, although Wisconsin still comfortably won 36-9.
Now, the Badgers face an Eastern Michigan team that has seen some Power 4 competition already. After beating Sacramento Statae 28-17 in their season opener, the Eagles fell 27-21 to San Jose State in Week 1 before losing 35-7 to Michigan State last weekend on the road.
Eastern Michigan’s defense struggled to defend the run, giving up 258 yards on 45 carries, while they couldn’t get much going in the passing game as quarterback Noah Kim, formerly at Michigan State, threw for 118 yards on 26 pass attempts.
The Badgers will look to clean things up here in Week 3 before a tough challenge on the road against Penn State. We’ve seen the potential on both sides of the ball through two games, but that’s been marred by periods of inconsistency as Luke Fickell’s group looks to get acclimated.
