Manipur: Four Kuki civilians killed in suspected militant attacks

Four persons from the Kuki community were killed in two incidents in Manipur on Sunday.

The first attack occurred at about 4 am at L Tollen village in Tamenglong district, Kuki organisations said. A woman died on the spot and her husband succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital, said Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum spokesperson Ginza Vualzong.
Their six-year-old son was being treated for bullet injuries.
The second attack took place at about 3 pm at Longpi village in Noney district. Two persons died on the spot.
The L Tollen Village Authority alleged that the attack there had been carried out by Naga insurgent group National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) and armed Naga group Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson). The village authorities in Longpi also blamed the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah).
The Tollen Village Authority said that it considers the attack an “act of terrorism” against civilians, and urged the Union government and the National Human Rights Commission to intervene.
Tensions between the Kukis and the Nagas escalated in Manipur in February after an alleged assault involving members of the Tangkhul Naga and the Kuki-Zo communities in the Ukhrul district.
