What are the longest home runs hit at Great American Ball Park?

· Yahoo Sports

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz hit a monster home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, Sept. 14, that measured 457 feet and bounced out of Great American Ball Park. It’s not often that a ball clears the Reds stadium, but it has happened before.

Here are the longest home runs hit at Great American Ball Park since it opened in 2003:

Longest estimated home run distances

Adam Dunn, 535 feet, Aug. 10, 2004

Facing Dodgers pitcher Jose Lima, Dunn launched the ball an estimated 535 feet that sailed over the batter’s eye and cleared the ballpark entirely, then bounced on Mehring Way and landed on a piece of driftwood on the Ohio River – which is technically in Kentucky! It didn’t help the Reds, who lost 5-2.

Juan Francisco, 502 feet, Sept. 12, 2011

Francisco’s shot off Chicago Cubs pitcher Rodrigo Lopez also soared out of the ballpark, this time over the right field “Moon Deck” bleachers, and landed on Mehring Way. The Reds still lost, 12-8.

Wily Mo Peña, 498 feet, April 17, 2005

After Peña’s three-run blast to left-center off Houston’s Brandon Duckworth helped the Reds beat the Astros 6-5, the slugger joked next time he would hit it two feet further to reach 500 feet.

All of those distances are unofficial, though. Statcast didn’t start to measure home run distances until 2015, so those don’t make the official record books.

Longest official home run distances

Paul DeJong, 486 feet, April 12, 2018

In the Statcast era, Paul DeJong of the St. Louis Cardinals holds the record at Great American Ball Park with a homer off Cincinnati pitcher Austin Brice that traveled 486 feet.

Aristides Aquino, 469 feet, Aug. 10, 2019

Aquino has the longest home for a Reds player at GABP in Statcast’s records. His hit off Cubs pitcher Dillon Maples in the Reds’ 5-2 victory matched a franchise record as his fourth home run in his first nine games.

Joey Votto, 466 feet, Sept. 27, 2021

Votto’s two-run blast off Pirates pitcher Cody Ponce landed in the second-to-last row in the right-field seats, helping the Reds beat Pittsburgh 13-1.

De La Cruz’s longest homers

As impressive as the tape-measure, 457-foot blast on Monday night was, it wasn’t even De La Cruz’s longest homer.

De La Cruz’s first home run for the Reds, on June 7, 2023, off Dodgers pitcher Noah Syndergaard, traveled 458 feet – one foot longer.

His longest hit sailed 467 feet against the Cleveland Guardians on Sept. 27, 2023, at Progressive Field.
