‘I Understand My Circumstances’ – Paul George Provides Update on Health Status, Comments on Struggles With 76ers

Paul George is entering his fifth team following a blockbuster summer trade. He has been traded three times in his career, but this time, he was not at the center of everything.

The former All-NBA forward will now suit up for the Boston Celtics after his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers, agreed to a deal they could not refuse. The 76ers received Jaylen Brown, while the Celtics acquired PG, along with 2028 and 2031 NBA Draft first-round picks and second-round picks in the 2028 and 2030 NBA Drafts.

PG is no longer the player he once was. He is no longer the player the 76ers signed in 2024, nor is he the same PG who competed for the 2019 MVP award.

He knows that.

The 36-year-old held his introductory press conference with his new team, where he made an honest admission: He is no longer chasing superstar status.

PG said the Celtics are Jayson Tatum’s team and that he is not trying to replace JB.

“We have a superstar and that’s JT. I’m not here to not necessarily steal the shine or try to reinvent who I am,” he said.

“I’m here to help JT, and he’s the guy. I’ve played alongside another superstar wing, and we co-existed beautifully.”

Brown and Tatum formed the Celtics’ deadly tandem after they began playing together in 2017, Tatum’s rookie season.

Paul George on struggles with the 76ers

George was signed by the 76ers at the start of the 2024-25 season to play alongside Joel Embiid. Unfortunately, the duo was unable to wreak the havoc many expected them to.

PG and Embiid’s time together was riddled with injuries. George also served a 25-game suspension last season for violating the league’s drug policy.

The nine-time All-Star says joining the Celtics is a great opportunity for him to bounce back. He said he is feeling better health-wise and believes he can still make a significant impact for his new team.

“Obviously, the last few years have been rough, just with injuries. But for myself personally, I feel great again,” PG told reporters.

“I feel like I’ve turned that corner of dealing with injuries and now kind of reestablishing myself from a physical standpoint again. And with that, I can carry it over to the court.”

PG is still expected to be a starter with the Celtics with JT being the first option on offense.
