Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch is mourning the death of Grade 9 day scholar Nico Caine, who passed away on Thursday evening.

‘Immense sadness’
The school shared the news with its community on Friday, describing Nico’s death as a matter of “immense sadness”.
“Our deepest condolences go to Nico’s family and friends,” the school said.
“We hold them, and all those who loved Nico, in our thoughts and prayers as they come to terms with this devastating loss.”
The school has not disclosed the circumstances surrounding Nico’s death.
Appealed for privacy
Paul Roos Gymnasium has also appealed for privacy for Nico’s family and those close to him during what it described as a difficult time.
The school asked that any enquiries about the death be directed to the rector’s office.
Nico was a Grade 9 day scholar at Paul Roos Gymnasium, one of Stellenbosch – and South Africa’s – best-known schools.
The school did not provide further information about memorial arrangements or support services for pupils and staff.
