Much of the focus for the New England Patriots over the next couple of weeks will be on how their offense looks.

While the defense was the unit in question entering the season, the offense has to respond after losing A.J. Brown and struggling a ton against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. A lot of that was because of quarterback Drake Maye, but other factors are at play as well. Regardless, as we've heard from head coach Mike Vrabel over the past couple of months, he believes that New England's defense can get a lot better.
It's not wrong for him to say that, either, as the Patriots have guys on that side of the football who could be replaced.
Specifically, the Patriots could improve on the edge. It remains uncertain whether New England would be willing to move premium draft capital to land a big-time talent, but a guy like Maxx Crosby could be available.
Bleacher Report recently suggested that he could still be worth a first-round pick despite his health coming into question during the failed trade with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason.
“The Las Vegas Raiders' 1-0 start to the season should cool any Maxx Crosby trade chatter for the immediate future. Crosby did ask for a trade following the 2025 season. The Raiders did agree to trade him to the Baltimore Ravens in a deal that fell through.
“According to ESPN's Ryan McFadden, however, Las Vegas wasn't actively looking to move Crosby in the spring before Baltimore made an offer it couldn't turn down. Of course, the Raiders aren't going to play the Miami Dolphins every week. At some point, they'll turn the offense over to rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza. If and when the Raiders start to stumble, building around Mendoza should become the central focus,” Kristopher Knox wrote.
The idea of trading for a player of Crosby's caliber makes a lot of sense for the Patriots.
If New England really believes that it has a chance to win a Super Bowl before the trade deadline, there's a scenario in which Crosby will be the best player available.
If New England doesn't feel that way, however, and starts to deal with even more injuries than it already has, it wouldn't be surprising to see the front office go in a different direction.
