Tuesday, September 22
Boys Golf
Division II Windmill Lakes Sectional
A Portage County team (Southeast) and two individuals (Streetsboro senior Dominic Marcini and Garfield sophomore Carter Haddox) are headed to district play. The Pirates edged the Rockets by six strokes, 345-351, to emerge as the third and final qualifying team out of the Windmill Lakes sectional. Senior Cole Bruno and sophomore Owen Dombroski had matching scores of 85 while seniors Alex Peelish (86) and Ethan Shodd (89) were close behind as part of Southeast's balanced effort. Marcini had an 80 to earn the first of three qualifying spots reserved for individuals not on a qualifying team. Chagrin Falls senior Peter Fischer and Haddox landed the final two spots with matching 82s. All will be back at Windmill Lakes Sept. 29 for the district tournament.
Division II Pine Hills Sectional
Field freshmen Zac Burgy and Mason Karg each fired an 82 to come one stroke shy of advancing to the district tournament. The Falcons put up an overall score of 343.
Volleyball
Berkshire def. Rootstown, 25-20, 25-10, 25-16
The Rovers fell despite a huge defensive performance from Ella Hayn (32 digs). Alexa Sladky added 21 digs for Rootstown (9-4, 3-3 CVC) while Sophia Byers had 14 digs and seven kills.
Cardinal def. Windham, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15
The Bombers fell despite Kierrah Sanders' five digs, three kills and two aces.
Boys Soccer
Chagrin Falls 2, Rootstown 0
The Tigers cemented their Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division title with two goals in the first half. Chagrin Falls struck just under 10 minutes in, heading home a free kick, and scored again off a cross with a minute remaining in the first half. The teams combined for just eight shots on goal, five for the Tigers and three for the Rovers (8-1-1, 3-1-1).
Monday, September 21
Volleyball
Grand Valley def. Windham, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15
The Bombers fell despite Makenzi Blockinger's big game from the service line (10 points, five aces).
