Pens hits the ice for first skate of season

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins held their first morning skate of the season ahead of Friday night's preseason game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The team is coming off a successful season in which they made it to the conference finals before falling to the Toronto Marlies 4-2.
Head Coach Kirk MacDonald credits the system and cohesiveness that both programs run in Pittsburgh and here in Wilkes-Barre as a big part of the team's success.
"Everything we're running here is the same as Pittsburgh. So I think a lot of the guys who have come down they were in Pitt, they're kind of familiar. We're just going to keep hammering away at the details of how we want to play and continue to try and get ready to go," said Head Coach Kirk MacDonald.
The team opens up their season at home on Saturday October 3 against the Springfield Thunderbirds at 6:05 p.m.
