Section V football keeps climbing as 11 teams earn state rankings

When it comes to Section V football, the New York State Sportswriters Association continues to be impressed.
If we put down our pom-poms for a moment, 2025 Section V Class D champion Avon and Class AA's University Prep have fallen out of the state rankings. But the number of area high school football teams in this season's second set of state rankings remains at 11, including newcomers Geneseo/Mount Morris and Oakfield-Alabama/Elba in Class D.

Here are the New York state football rankings entering the fourth week of the season:
Class AA
No. 22: Rush-Henrietta (3-0)
- Last game: 42-34 win vs. UPrep
- Up next: Saturday, Sept. 26 at Fairport; Friday, Oct. 2 vs. Penfield.

Class A
