WACO, Texas (FOX 44) - Ponder spoiled Waco Connally's homecoming Friday night, handing the Cadets a 51-26 loss at Mac Peoples Stadium.
The Lions entered the night at 2-2 and coming off a dominant 58-0 win over Bridgeport. They carried that momentum into Waco, putting up 51 points to earn their second straight victory and improve to 3-2 on the season.

Connally managed 26 points against Ponder, but the Cadets could not keep pace with the Lions' offense. Ponder had already built a 34-20 advantage during the second quarter before eventually pulling away for the 25-point victory.
The loss dropped Connally to 0-5 and completed a difficult non-district schedule for the Cadets. Connally opened the season with losses to China Spring, Lorena and Fairfield before falling 49-28 at Grandview last week.
Friday's game was also Connally's homecoming and its first home game since the season opener against China Spring on Aug. 28.
Both teams now have an open week before beginning district play.
Connally returns to Mac Peoples Stadium on Friday, Oct. 9, when the Cadets host Gatesville in their District 13-4A Division II opener. The Hornets enter the matchup 3-2 after beating Burnet 42-7 Friday night.
Ponder will open District 6-4A Division II play the same night on the road against Gainesville. The Lions head into district competition at 3-2 after winning three of their last four games.
