This last weekend proved to be a banger for combat sports. We got to witness some really cool stories, heated grudges, comebacks of legends, celebrity appearances, and an absolute war. Let’s count down to the biggest moments of this action-packed weekend:

8. A Knockout of The Year Contender

In a regional MMA promotion in Independence, Missouri, called Fighting Alliance Championship (FAC), two heavyweight prospects named Josh Davis and Jacob Turner squared off. The fight ended in seconds when Josh rushed Jacob in the corner with punches before knocking him out viciously. The knockout scene went viral on the internet, gaining millions of views as Turner’s body fell to the mat with his hands stuck in the cage. Gnarly scenes!

The co-main event of UFC Fight Night showcased a grudge match between two women’s bantamweight contenders. It was Brazil’s Norma Dumont vs. Argentina’s Ailin Perez. These two fighters have been calling each other out for years. Their fight wasn’t as entertaining as the buildup itself, but their face-off at the weigh-in delivered a spicy moment when Perez did her trademark twerk, and Dumont responded by throwing a packet of condoms and cash at her.

6. High-Level Japanese Boxing

On the other side of the world, two young Japanese fighters put on a striking showdown. The WBC Bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue defended his belt against the kickboxing prodigy Tenshin Nasukawa in a back-and-forth 12-round battle. This was a rematch of last year’s fight, which Takuma also won. This time, Tenshin dropped Inoue once, but Takuma took over the rest of the fight with his pressure and retained his belt.

Misfits Boxing’s main event pitted UFC legend and former 2-division champion Henry Cejudo and HBO star Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton. The 4-round fight was pretty close, but Cejudo was able to edge out a split decision over Walton.

In the co-main event, a super fan favorite, Tony Ferguson, stepped back inside the ring to defend his MFB middleweight belt against Mahmoud Sebie, a Greco-Roman Olympic wrestler. At his peak, Ferguson carried an unmatched confidence into the cage. His relentless style made fans believe he could finish almost anyone in front of him.  And at 42 years old, he did exactly that and finished Sebie in the 2nd, giving some nostalgia to the hardcore fans.

3. Miami Cop’s Exceptional UFC Debut

This weekend’s UFC card had a fight with one of the most unthinkable stories ever. It was Miami sheriff’s deputy Luis Hernandez taking on a convicted felon, Sedriques Dumas. Luis, a UFC debutant, took this fight in 2 days’ notice because Dumas’s opponent had to pull out. Social media immediately picked on the narrative and UFC itself bumped this fight up from prelims to main card as it was getting mad traction. The fight itself went quite fast, as Luis submitted Sedriques in under a minute. In the post-fight interview, Luis even vouched for Sedriques and asked fans to show respect to him.

2. A Dream UFC Fight In BKFC

Yoel Romero and Darren Till were both contenders in the UFC in the same timeline, and fans even speculated about them competing, but it never came to fruition. Now, years after their UFC days, these two finally faced off inside the BKFC ring. Instead of being a brawl that fans expected back in the day, this fight turned out to be a technical battle. But it ended with both warriors throwing down and hugging it out with their bloody faces and fists. ‘The Gorilla’ took the victory via a unanimous decision.

1. Absolute War In Meta Apex

UFC Vegas 121 main event delivered an exceptional clash between the 21-year-old Raul Rosas Jr. and 39-year-old Raoni Barcelos. The bantweight contenders went to war that had the fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Raul started strong, but Raoni took the middle rounds.

After 4 rounds of brawling, Raul let it all out in the 5th and went for the finish. Ultimately he landed a takedown that resulted in Barcelos losing consciousness, thus referre calling the fight. Initially, Raul celebrated his hard-fought victory, but he stopped when he realised that Raoni was not getting up. Eventually, the medics took Raoni out on a stretcher.

Latest updates from Raoni’s coaches say that he is stable, awake, and undergoing medical evaluations in the hospital. As of now, it is still unclear what exactly happened to him at the end of the fight, but Raul and the whole community wish him the best and thank both combatants for putting on a show to remember forever.
