Notre Dame introduces new logos for soccer, women’s volleyball teams

Notre Dame Athletics have unveiled specific Leprechaun logos for some of its sports starting last year, including football, and it has continued into this one. .

So far, the Irish have introduced sport-specific marks for three others: hockey, basketball and golf. On Monday, Notre Dame revealed two new Leprechaun logos for the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the women’s volleyball squad.

The soccer teams’ newest logo has the “the Fighting Irish spirit, now in stride on the pitch,” according to a description. The new women’s volleyball mark was described as the “Fighting Irish tradition with a volleyball identity of its own.”

“The new marks were designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media, with input from the Notre Dame volleyball and soccer programs,” noted in a release. “The designs were inspired by photography and fundamentals from both former and current student-athletes.”

The iconic Fighting Irish Leprechaun logo debuted on the cover of the Nov. 20, 1964 edition of Time, which featured first-year head football coach Ara Parseghian.

“The image developed for the cover eventually was adapted into the logo that Irish athletic fans across the nation have come to recognize on clothing, memorabilia and more,” the release noted. “The Notre Dame Leprechaun serves as a secondary spirit mark of Notre Dame athletics. Its long-standing history represents the tenacious spirit of the Fighting Irish and their determination. (It has) a relentless desire to seize every opportunity with unity, clarity and purpose whether the odds are great or small.”

The release continued, “the Leprechaun is recognized around the world today as the mascot of Notre Dame athletics dating back to its design in the early 1960s.”

ND Athletics will continue to unveil specific Leprechaun logos for other sports throughout the 2026-27 sports season.
