The Patriots got walloped by the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 causing QB Drake Maye to start catching strays on social media. Maye found himself in Jameis Winston territory after his team’s loss and it wasn’t flattering.
The Maye discourse continued as ESPN’s Mina Kimes shared her thoughts on the situation including what seems to be plaguing the Pats star’ QB. Top WR AJ Brown is still hurt with a right high ankle sprain which has contributed to a lack of confidence from Maye in his receivers.
“Watching Drake Maye, right now you’re watching a quarterback who has zero faith in his receivers,” Kimes said on Week 3’s Monday Night Football pregame show.

Kimes said Maye is a top ten NFL quarterback on throws that take 2.5 seconds or longer but downfield throws are causing him to lose trust in his receivers.
Maye drew the ire of head coach Mike Vrabel after the Patriots’ loss and now has some time to prepare for Week 4’s colossal road game at Buffalo. Maye led his team to the Super Bowl last season but doesn’t seem to have the same confidence or accuracy so far this season with Brown out and the rest of the team scrambling to make up for his absence.
The Patriots’ young star QB still has plenty of goodwill among his teammates, but expectations are staggering after his incredible 2025-26 season. Whether Maye keeps the train rolling into the rest of the season and beyond could determine whether he is seen as a future Hall-of-Famer or just another good quarterback with serious issues.
