The Sacramento Kings find themselves in an interesting situation as they figure out what to do with Domantas Sabonis. The Kings are likely not going to be a contending team this season, but they are going to look to add some pieces to the puzzle.

Sacramento is starting to rebuild with some young players. During the summer, Sabonis hired a new agent, likely to help facilitate a potential trade.
“I do think it’s somewhat interesting that he changed agents this offseason," ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said. "He hired Aaron Mintz from CAA. This last year, Mintz and his group executed the trade for Trae Young away from Atlanta. They executed the trade for Walker Kessler away from [the Jazz]. Domantas Sabonis just hired him. At the risk of parodying myself, why would he do that?”
Windhorst's assumption turned out to be correct, as the Kings tried to make a trade with the Detroit Pistons for Jalen Duren.
“There was a trade on the table from the Kings for Jalen Duren. They were willing to offer Domantas Sabonis to the Pistons but that's not what the Pistons want. They want to bring Jalen Duren back and secure him on a long term deal," ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel stated.
With Sabonis clearly on the trade block, there are some places where he could end up. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale has Sabonis going to the Toronto Raptors in a deal involving the Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers.
“Charlotte Hornets Receive: RJ Barrett. Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Pat Connaughton, Toronto's 2029 second-round pick, $3.8 million cash (via Charlotte). Sacramento Kings Receive: Royce O'Neale, Jakob Poeltl, Tidjane Salaün, 2027 first-round pick (least favorable of Denver, L.A. Clippers, Oklahoma City and Toronto, via Toronto), Orlando's 2028 second-round pick (via Charlotte), Toronto's 2029 second-round pick, Phoenix's 2031 second-round pick (via Charlotte). Toronto Raptors Receive: Domantas Sabonis,” Favale wrote.
It is a blockbuster deal, to say the least, with the Raptors getting a very good piece to add alongside Kawhi Leonard. It is unfortunate to lose RJ Barrett, but the return might be better.
Sabonis is currently on a $186 million contract with Sacramento. Toronto is in win-now mode with Leonard, and this certainly would help that cause. Sabonis has led the league in rebounding on different occasions, so this would also help them inside.
